I live in southern California where autumn is barely a blip on the weather forecaster’s screen. So when I visited New York a week ago I found myself totally spellbound by Mother Nature’s fall outfit…extravagant in all of her autumn splendor.
A long drive out to the far tip of Long Island revealed an endless panorama of fall colors, singing out noisily in the breeze. Every shade of red, yellow, gold, rust, brown singing and swaying together like a gospel choir on Sunday morning.
They were not asking to be praised, but by the very nature of this moment in their life cycle, these magnificent maples and oaks were singing the praises of the beauty that is late autumn. As I looked out the car window, I felt the trees singing to me…and what I heard was a hymn to aging.
Now, here we are in the autumn of our lives. Do we want to fight back against the inevitable, only to feel the ravages of the war on aging beat us up? Or, can we find a way to embrace the exquisite beauty of our age?
Do we have the courage to come out to ourselves and let go of the cultural pressures to look and behave young?
What can we expect from life if we find a way to just be ourselves?
I am thinking that this Thanksgiving offers us a perfect opportunity to begin a process of loving, self-acceptance and gratitude for all that we are. And I mean All that we are, and all that we are.
So, first and foremost, we are a part of the All, the Infinite, the quantum field. The Allness of God is right where we are, always. Now that is something to be thankful for! Just in the remembrance of our Spiritual truth, we can dive deep into the well of Gratitude where we will find our Love and Peace and Joy.
The more challenging part of this process is accepting and loving the all of the ego. The part that judges and evaluates, listens to the critical voices that berate the lovely, handsome, beautiful person in the mirror.
This is the part of the process where we intentionally turn away from those voices. We refuse to give them power. Instead, we give ourselves messages of love from the place in us that is Love.
We practice turning away from the societal messages of aging and we deliberately turning toward the place in us that is already loving and kind. We lean into our own Intelligence for answers to that, which feels challenging.
Then there is the all that we have been and done…our lifeline.
At this point in our lives, we have had countless (as in a gazillion) experiences; good, hard, happy, sad … life lessons that have shaped our body mind and spirit. Let’s take time to remember all we have done and learned.
We recall how some of the most challenging situations that seemed too tragic or impossible at the time, later became understood in the bigger picture of what was to unfold.
And then we recall our major life milestones… the events that bring up feelings of love, accomplishment and joy. It may be surprising how many there are. Remember, smile and be thankful.
Noticing what we have to be thankful for is a very powerful process. Getting in the habit of seeing the world through thankful eyes is actually quite revolutionary. It will make your vibration soar! And as we take flight on the wings of Gratitude, we find that those old worries, fears and negative thoughts seem so small and insignificant. Eventually we will live in the rarified atmosphere of the Most High and won’t even remember the fuss about aging. We will know that we are eternal, Spiritual beings, having a human experience, in which everything is happening for our good!
Happy Thanksgiving
